Pinewood Derby 2008

Even after all we went through last week, Josh was able to pull it off at the Pinewood Derby! Isn't that great? It was so entertaining to watch the boys fight for first place. I think the parents are always as in to it all as the boys are. Josh had help from me, his dad and Grandpa B. Talk about team work! In the end, it was Josh that was the winner!

When we went to the Scout store to get his kit, we bought some extra weight, some decals and a kit to sand the wheels smooth. I think it helped too that we had sparkly paint from Michaels. In the rule book, it says the car cannot weigh more than 5 oz. So, Josh had Grandpa add just enough weights to make just over 4 oz. Zach (and Dan) had enough weight to put his right at 5 oz. It was so close! Josh and Zach were neck and neck the whole night. Finally, they pulled out the stop watch. Zach came in at 3.75 seconds and Josh at 3.72 seconds! Isn't that amazing?!?!? I think in the end they were both GOLD winners! That might have made Dan a little happier, too given that last year Zach came in second only after the stop watch tie breaker.
It was so fun to see all the boys cheering for their master piece! Great job to all of them! Some of them looked especially awesome.. even if they didn't go the fastest.

Congrats to Josh!! Not having any brothers and all, I know almost nothing about Scout's except that first place at the Pinewood Derby rates right up there with getting your Eagle. Must feel pretty darn good :)
