Fun with hair 101

This is going to be a short/quick post. Just wanted to share with all of you this fun blog. My peeps at aerobics were willing to let me in on how they make their girls so dang cute (they are all darling even when their hair isn't done). But, this is fun if you are looking for something new to do with your girls. I know I always am. I might even be able to talk one of them into letting me do their hair for once. :)

Um.. Dude?

So I was laying down on my bed this afternoon with mammoth headache, when Erin starts yelling for me to come look at the fence! She was standing there holding the blinds up to see what that "loud crash was." I jumped up and went over to see what she was talking about. Sure enough, just as she said, the fence was "broken." I yelled for Jer to come outside with me because the fence was down.

Jer: "What? The fence is down?"

Aim: "Um ya. The fence is down. Down like a car ran into it down."

When we got out there, it was worse than I had thought. A big dodge truck was hauling a trailer and just as he got to the corner before us, the trailer came off (his safety chains weren't on) and fish tailed around. It went up on the sidewalk, caught the corner of our fence and then whipped across the street. Dude. Fortunately, the kids weren't in the back yard at the time and everyone was safe. The driver of the truck was pretty shook up. He was mad at himself for not doing the safety chains up, but more scared to tell his wife what had happened. He and his son collect old cars and he was off to pick up another one. His wife was already not happy about him getting another "project" but now he was going to be in trouble for causing the insurance to have to pay for our fence.

I did call the police, but apparently the West Valley City Police have more important things to attend to (like graffiti???). We were told that this was a "civil dispute." He didn't happen to notice the smell of beer on our new friends breath, so we didn't mention it. Off went the officer and eventually off went the big truck, trailer and the driver.

So here is what is left of our fence. I'm kind of freaking out about the back of our house being exposed to a busy street (and everyone seeing that I haven't mowed my lawn for 2 weeks). Hopefully the insurance company gets out here fast and gets it replaced. In the meantime, feel free to tag those last few sections of our fence. I won't hurry to clean it off or file a report this time.

Sweet Baby

Since the big kids have gone back to school, Erin and I are not having a hard time finding things to do during our days without them. In fact, it seems like we have been running non-stop since September 1st. I'm not sure why it feels like that.. I'm quickly gaining all the weight back that I lost last winter. I feel like I am busy, but maybe my age is just catching up.

So Erin has school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Miss Katie's. That leaves a lot of other days each week that she is starving for stimulation. Since I have been attending Story Time at the County Library since Emma was a toddler, I may as well keep it up for Erin. She is as shy as they come and doesn't run around dancing and yelling at the books (like some might), but I know she loves it. Okay, so it's probably not Story Time that she loves. It's time with her cousins. Last year we went with Hanah (now Hanah goes to pre-school on those days). This year, we have been going with Noah, Cameron, Abbie and Jackson. Of course, Story Time ends with a little craft (and then lunch at Micken Donalds).

Last week, Erin couldn't get enough of her sweet cousins. So, since Noah was ready for a nap, Cameron came home with us for a little "play date." Erin is such a sweet mom. ;) She fed him, changed him, snuggled with him while they watched a movie, took a nap with him, sang to him, combed his hair.. and posed for a few pictures.

Yesterday, I was getting ready for the day and Erin was sitting just outside the bathroom playing with her baby. She was doing a lot of the same things with this baby as she had done with Cameron. Then, it got quiet for a minute..

mom: "Whatcha doing, Erin?"

Erin: "I'm just playing with my baby. I just wish we had a real baby, mom. Everybody else has a real baby. How come you're not growing one in your belly?"

mom: "I guess you are my baby, Erin. I don't need to grow another one when I have you!"

Erin: "I'm just a big girl now, though, mom. You can't buy babies. You just hafta grow one. I really want you to grow one so I can have a real baby at our house."

Isn't that the cutest thing? She almost makes me think about having another one. If I could get a guarantee that the next would be as wonderful as she has been, I might consider it. But, as for now, she is right.. everyone else does have a real baby! We have so many in our family right now that we can play with one anytime! And our ward has had like seventeen new ones since we moved in last year! So for now, play dates it is!

9th Row

Last Saturday night, we took the kids to the Circus at the Energy Solutions Arena (the Delta Center if you ask me). Considering I haven't been myself since I was 2 years old, it was AMAZING! We had so much fun! Jer kept telling us (the kids and me) that we were in for a big surprise. He kept trying to explain that you have no idea how great it is until you see it.

Friday, we went downtown to buy the tickets. To our surprise, the Saturday show was nearly sold out. There were front row seats available at $84 each, but only four together (we needed 5). So, the other option was nose bleed heaven. We were in the upper balcony, but on row 5 so we thought it would be ok considering it was only about $80 this way for all five tickets.

All we could think about all day on Saturday was going to the Circus. Erin and Emma couldn't wait to see the elephants. And Josh was just excited. He wasn't sure what to expect. We got there in plenty of time and took the stairs up to the nose bleed heaven section. We found our seats and sat down. I turned to do a head count of the kids and found that one of them (we will leave names out of this story) crying and holding on to the chair for dear life. I immediately went over to sit by my scared of heights child (I had no idea). I tried to talk him/her out of having a full on panic attack, but it wasn't going to work. So, Jer took this child (very carefully) outside the arena and sat at the table for a while trying to calm nerves. They shared a nacho and waited for a bright idea to come to either one of them before the show started. About 3 minutes into the show, Jer decided to let me stay with the other two kids while he found a way to entertain our fear of heights child. As he came into the arena to tell me his plan, the usher asked him what was going on. He explained our situation and before we knew what to think of everything.. we were being escorted down to the 9th row! The whole family! It was amazing. We were dead center at eye level. The girls couldn't have been any closer to the elephants! And Josh never wiped his smile off his face! What a fun night!

So, something that could have been horrible, turned into a great night for all of us. Thanks to the employees at the ESA! Apparently, they plan for things like that and keep lower seats available. How cool is that?!

I'm a Chevrolet Corvette!

"You're a classic - powerful, athletic, and competitive. You're all about winning the race and getting the job done. While you have a practical everyday side, you get wild when anyone pushes your pedal. You hate to lose, but you hardly ever do."

That's pretty funny. I took this quiz to find out what my personality is in comparison to a car. All I can say is thank heavens I'm not a mini van! Take the quiz yourself and find out what kind of car you are! http://www.tomorrowland.us/sportscar.

I am a SOCCER MOM!

Does it get any better than this? I think I can truly call myself a "soccer mom" when I spend all week sitting at the soccer field for practice and still look forward to the games on the weekend! I have an awesome soccer mom tan, too (very similar to a farmer tan). You should see the lines from my watch!

While our days and nights are very busy, I am loving being a mom more and more every day. (If you ask Jer, it's because I have been out "with the girls" for the last three weekends scrapbooking .. that's why I can say I love being a mom). We spend all but Monday nights at either soccer, tumbling or Scouts. And, I am sure it will only get crazier as life goes on. Jer just accepted a new calling on the Activity's Committee last Sunday so now we will be juggling things like church sports and the Annual Soup and Pie Social, too. How fun is that? (Ask Jer how fun that is next time you see him! He is so social.. he can't wait to get things rolling). But I know (as well as the Lord knows - obviously) that he is perfect for that calling. Word must've gotten out that he plays ball with the boys.. and that he is a fantastic cook. But, for him, it's all business.

I had to post these great pictures from Josh's game last Friday. Anyone that complains about sitting at a soccer game like this is crazy! It was a perfect 75 degrees outside with gorgeous rainbow across the valley. And to top it off, Josh scored his first goal of the season! He was all smiles! We are off to another game in about an hour (as soon as he gets home from a Scout activity) and today he is the starting keeper. He loves playing keeper (because he rocks), but man it's fun to score, too! His coach is awesome because he lets Josh have the best of both worlds. He usually plays Keeper one half and offense the other half.

Wish him luck at the Presidents Cup! It's next week. They will be playing four or five tournament games in addition to the league games. Good thing we love sitting on the soccer field!
